Tech Queens Series Update: We Have Moved to Campus!
Tech Queens Series Update
Fam, we need to talk.
Don’t panic. It’s good news. You know how you start primary school, then you graduate to secondary school, and finally, you move to the University “permanent site”?
That is exactly what is happening with our beloved Tech Queens series.
We have realized that you are not just here to read; you are here to learn. You are here to gather skills that will change your career and your bank account. So, we are moving the Tech Queens Series Update from this general blog to our dedicated learning hub: The Smart City Institute.
But before you click over to our new home, let’s take a breath. We have covered a lot of ground in the last few months. If you missed any episodes, or if you just want a quick refresher before we dive into the deep end on the new site, we have got you covered.
Here is the “cheat sheet” of everything we have learned so far.
The Journey So Far: A Quick Recap
1. Women in Automation: Your Next Tech Superpower
We started by shattering the myth that tech is a “man’s world.” We explored how African women are uniquely positioned to lead the smart city revolution. It’s not just about gadgets; it’s about solving real African problems with automation.
2. Beyond the Screen: The Physical Side of Tech
We moved away from just coding and typing. We talked about hardware. We discussed the joy of holding a screwdriver, stripping a wire, and building things that you can actually touch. This is where the magic happens.
3. Equipping Nigeria’s Girls for the Future
This was the “Why.” We looked at the numbers and realized that empowering girls with tech skills isn’t charity—it’s an economic strategy. The future of Nigeria relies on girls who can build systems, not just use apps.
4. Smart Homes 101: The Basics
We broke down the concept of a Smart Home. It’s not about expensive toys; it’s about convenience, security, and energy management. We defined what makes a home “smart” versus just “connected.”
5. Decoding Smart Device Languages
Remember the “Village Gossip” vs. the “Loud Friend”? We explained Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Wi-Fi in simple Nigerian terms. We learned that devices need a common language to talk to each other without causing a headache.
6. My First Project: Voice-Activated Light
This was our first practical lab! We walked you through the step-by-step process of installing a smart bulb and controlling it with your voice. The feeling of saying “Let there be light” and watching it happen? Unbeatable.
7. The World of Robots
We demystified robotics. We learned that robots aren’t just sci-fi killers; they are useful machines made of sensors (eyes), actuators (muscles), and controllers (brains). We saw how they are changing agriculture and logistics in Africa.
8. AI for Beginners: How Machines See
In our last post here, we looked at Artificial Intelligence. We explained that AI is just like a toddler learning to recognize a cup. We explored Computer Vision (how cameras see) and Audio Recognition (how Siri hears your accent).
